Not all learners have the same attitude towards correctness. Is this difference a result
of cultural background or personality variation? In other words, are some cultures
more concerned about correctness than others?
It is clear that some cultures emphasise accuracy and precision, for example in terms
of information, detail, promptness, and quality. They are less comfortable with
vagueness and ambiguity. These cultures are generally task-focused. They like linear
commun ication which gets straight to the point in a clear, precise, and accurate way.
In contrast, there are cultures which are more relationship-focused. In relationshipfocused cultures, there is less focus on accuracy and precision, and more on people: building trust and maintaining harmony.
